Last week's top links, Christmas edition

22 December 2011, not commented yet

A new year is always a time to reflect on the changes we want or need to make, a time for reconsideration and improvement. According to expert predictions, the year 2012 is going to be a lot more mobile than the previous one. The number of remote workers is bound to increase considerably and the use of online collaboration tools like yaM will be more widespread.

Our 16th issue will share some tried-and-true tips with you to enjoy a successful stress-free end of the year and to start a new year with a smile and a huge desire for change and improvement. The yaM team wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

  • Interruptions are the enemy of work. They are the enemy of productivity, the enemy of the so called "state flow". Everyone's calling unnecessary meetings all the time, people are bombarding you with hundreds of emails and phone calls. Did you know that it takes about 15 minutes to get back into work flow should you get interrupted? Therefore, workplace interruptions should be kept to a minimum.
  • So what can we expect in 2012? New ways of working? Reshaping of office environments? The mobile workplace is currently seen as more flexible way to work than physical workplace. Online collaboration and management tools will dominate the remote offices.
  • Meetings where nothing is decided are a waste of time. In order to make sure meeting attendees come to a decision and take action, you need to have a productive dialogue.
  • Being on time is always a good start for a productive meeting. Respect the other person's time. Stay focused.
